This is plumbers solder (pronounced 'sodder'). Approx 1/8" in diameter, this old style solder is
mostly lead, a substance known to cause birth defects, learning disabilities and a host of other
bad things. Outlawed for public use around the 1970's (or so) because of the concern of lead
entering the water system, it still makes a great weight for small projects. BE SURE TO WASH
YOUR HANDS AFTER HANDLING SOLDER! Plumbers solder today is a mix of other non
poisonous materials and is much lighter in weight.
If you don't have a weight scale handy, A piece of this solder 7 3/4" long will weigh 14 grams.
